words in edgeways with beth rowley
Wears The Trousers first encountered Beth Rowley in the flesh at a singer-songwriter night held at Camden’s Dingwalls back in the summer of 2006. How, we wondered, does such a tiny creature defy the laws of physics to emit the roar of a seasoned soul diva twice her size? And we weren’t alone; the entire audience was staring open-mouthed at the sweet young woman with the curly blonde locks and cherubic face. Despite having already heard her Sweet Hours EP and proclaimed Ms Rowley to boast “an extraordinary voice that could melt a heart of anthracite”, the raw talent she exuded on stage blew us away. Forget Duffy; definitely forget Adele. Beth Rowley has got soul and she knows how to use it.
