trouser shorts: emilíana torrini, psapp and more

October 12, 2008 by Alan Pedder in Blog

Snails can’t jump but that hasn’t stopped Emíliana Torrini from using several of the slimy critters in this adorable new video for ‘Big Jumps’, the second single to be taken from her latest album, the mostly brilliant Me & Armini.

All has not been well in Psappworld since we last heard from the duo, and this animated video for their new single ‘The Monster Song’ is a pretty twisted affair. A breastfeeding cat explodes, another cat gets its teeth knocked out and swapped for stars in the sky, and lots of other poor kittens get their heads impaled on spikes. Good job the song is as brilliant as ever. New album The Camel’s Back is out on October 27th.

Two sides to Rachael Yamagata for you here, which is only fair considering her long-awaited new album Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart (not yet available in Europe) is a stylistically divergent double-disc extravaganza. First, the introspective ‘Elephants’ and second, the distinctly more rocking ‘Sidedish Friend’. Which do you prefer?

New Britney blah blah blah. Watch ‘Womanizer’ here.

Other videos we’ve been watching this week (the pop edition):

Robyn’s bomb-diddy-bomb-a-dang-a-dang-diggy-diggy new video for ’Cobrastyle’.

Alesha Dixon’s annoying new single, ‘The Boy Does Nothing’, from her second solo album The Alesha Show (out November 17th). We can’t decide if we love it or hate it…

Janelle Monáe’s futuristic short film for her new single, ‘Many Moons’, taken from the recent special edition of her 2007 EP Metropolis: The Chase Suite.

…and the rest

Emmylou Harris talking about ‘In Rodanthe’, her new song from the Richard Gere/Diane Lane film ‘Nights In Rodanthe’, which opened in cinemas on Friday.

this honestly shot (and a little out of sync) performance video from talented UK singer-songwriter Elaine Palmer, who we saw supporting Diane Cluck a couple of years ago and were blown away by.

Finally, in honour of the fact that it’s only 10 weeks until Christmas (sorry), here’s a taster of Enya’s upcoming festive album, And Winter Came. You’ll have to skip to about 1:30 to hear anything new.
