After Citrus propelled them into the upper echelons of indie music off the back of fantastic singles like ‘Strawberries’ and ‘Thursday’, Brooklyn based duo Asobi Seksu find themselves the subject of slobbering anticipation for their long-awaited third album Hush. Out February 16th through One Little Indian, and preceded by next week’s release of pleasingly jangly new single ‘Me & Mary’, Hush sees Yuki Chikudate and James Hanna continue their adventures in effects pedal bliss (but less prominently if the single is anything to go by) across a dozen new songs recorded while the band were at their lowest ebb following a difficult period of exhausting tours and line up changes. That might explain the very simple cover art, which features a despondent looking Yuki clutching her heart while sitting on a golden wing-backed chair – a pretty allusion to the success/happiness inequality?
The band recently played out the record during a short US tour and are now heading to Europe to pick up where they left off with Citrus, that is, thrilling our little British hearts with lovely shimmering pop songs. A 13-date tour with Ladytron – well worth the ticket price! – starts on Friday and maps out as follows:
