Amanda Ghost to become Epic Records prez

From a flop debut album to president of Epic Records in just 8 years, you’ve got to hand it to Amanda Ghost for an incredible career trajectory. The singer-songwriter with the ever so slightly annoying vibrato was appointed the job of overseeing the overall management and creative direction of Epic earlier this week, and will take up her post on February 16th. A bizarre collaboration with her now-incarcerated pal Boy George and an invisible EP aside, we haven’t heard much from Amanda herself in the last few years, but her influence has been keenly felt in the charts. After all, she did co-write James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’, Beyoncé and Shakira’s ‘Beautiful Liar’ and various tracks on I Am…Sasha Fierce.

Amanda’s new boss, Columbia/Epic Label Group chairman Rob Stringer said: ”I am delighted that Amanda has chosen to bring her creative vision and flair to the Epic label. In the changing environment of the music business record labels undoubtedly need to be complete partners with the artistic community and Amanda will be the perfect executive to meet that challenge.” Well, she certainly proved outspoken about her creative vision when she appeared as a guest judge on the recent series of Channel 4′s ‘Orange Unsigned Act’, apparently prompting at least one rejected soul to write bitter comments on all her YouTube videos.

Amanda herself admits she’s not a conventional choice for a music biz executive, saying “it is testament to the new mood at Sony where content is now king and the music business is being put back in the hands of creative talent such as myself. I’m here to draw on my experiences as an artist, songwriter and producer to make the new and existing artists signed to Epic as brilliant and successful as possible.” If we didn’t know about the Blunt connection, this could be quite promising. Perhaps this will be what will finally redeem her for it.
