marissa nadler announces UK tour

fmf_marissanadlerFirst ever full band shows in the UK

What a rollercoaster press release. The good news: Boston’s finest folk export Marissa Nadler has announced that she will return to these fair shores in May, and this time she’s bringing some friends. For the first time ever (in this country anyway), Marissa will have a full band behind her as she brings to life the richly-layered songs of her upcoming fourth album Little Hells [read our preview]. Six dates have been announced at the beginning of May, starting in Bath on the 2nd and ending in Birmingham on the 7th. See below for the full itinerary.

The bad news: the release of Little Hells has been pushed back from March 2nd to March 23rd. Sadface. Console yourselves by listening to ‘River Of Dirt‘ on constant repeat.

02.05.09 The Chapel Arts Centre, Bath
03.05.09 Parish Church, Halifax
04.05.09 Captain’s Rest, Glasgow
05.05.09 Arts Centre, Norwich
06.05.09 The Luminaire, London
07.05.09 Glee Club, Birmingham

Tickets for the London date are £8 and will go on sale through www.wegottickets.com soon. Keep an eye out. Other ticket outlets TBC.

For what it worth:Little Hells is available here in France, I bought it today.

  6. ah, great! it’s also available digitally here. Presumably the physical album is only delayed in the UK then. Hope you’re enjoying it. It’s great, no? Our review will come soon!

I would download it, but I really want to get the CD. I’ll have to make do listening to preview clips. Hope some good value UK pre-order offers start to appear soon (HMV.com quite often have pre-orders for £7.99).

When I heard “River Of Dirt” on Marissa Nadler’s MySpace page, I thought she did another great album like “Songs III: Bird on the water” which is awesome and is one of my favorite albums with “The Lovely” and “Ancient And Modern” by Mara Carlyle, “The Bairns” by Rachel Unthank & The Winterset and “Faces In The Rocks” by Mariee Sioux.Unfortunately it’s not the case: the new songs are not as good as the ones of “Songs III” and the sound of it is too produced, not authentic like “Songs III”.It seems that with “Little Hells”, Marissa (or her label?) wanted to do a more accessible album. It’s not bad but it’s definitely not as good as “Songs III” and I hope that for the next album the sound of her previous records will be back.Just my opinion anyway.

PS: it’s strange that the album is delayed in England but is available in France.
