First new album details emergeIt feels like forever since Begin To Hope and, frankly, we’ve been hoping long enough for a follow-up. Now is the time for concrete news. Praise be for Pitchfork then, as they’ve just revealed that Regina Spektor will release her second major-label album Far in June.
As well as reuniting with Begin To Hope producer David Kahne, Regina enlisted Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Rilo Kiley), Garret ‘Jacknife’ Lee (Snow Patrol, REM) and rock icon Jeff Lynne to work on the project. ”I’m pretty much stuck with sounding like myself,” she says when asked if she worried that using so many producers might make Far less cohesive, adding that she was blissfully unaware of Jeff Lynne’s legendary past as ELO frontman and member of the Traveling Wilburys before asking him to work on some songs.
While the tracklist has yet to be decided, one of the songs she talks about is called ‘The Wallet’ (“about finding someone else’s wallet, then finding a Blockbuster card in the wallet, and then returning the wallet back to a Blockbuster”), with others like ‘Genius Next Door’ (“dark narrative”), ‘The Calculation’ (“sprightly sure-to-be hit”) and ‘Folding Chair’ (“goofy”, “uncanny dolphin imitation”) mentioned in passing. We absolutely cannot wait.
