Emmy The Great has announced plans to release a new EP of “super old songs that were forgotten about” on July 17th as a limited edition 12″ vinyl and digital download. Some of the four tracks on The Edward EP (First Songs) date all the way back to at least 2005, when Wears The Trousers first discovered Emmy through rather unfortunate circumstances. She made us feel better though, and even gave us a Tilly & The Wall pocket mirror. What a nice lady. Emmy admits she only remembered these songs after going out to tour her recent album First Love and being asked to play them. “One of them I had to get the lyrics off the Internet,” she writes in her Myspace blog.
Long-time followers may be startled to realise that the song many of us have always known as ‘Canopies & Grapes’ actually bears the decidedly less nonsequitur-ish title of ‘Canopies & Drapes’, but will be pleased to see that ‘Edward Is Dedward’ has been resurrected at last. We must confess, ‘A Bowl Collecting Blood’ is a new one on us, so there’s something else to get happy about. And here’s another: Emmy will be playing a one-off show at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on July 19th to celebrate the EP’s release. Support will come from Aidan Moffat and Sleeping States. Buy tickets here at £12.50 each, plus booking fee. (You can also hear snippets of two of the songs on the same page.) Full tour dates below.
