The Slits ready comeback album

June 12, 2009 by Alan Pedder in Blog

ladyfest_slits2First new studio release in over 25 years

Thirty years on from their influential and now considered legendary debut Cut, The Slits are making good on their promise to deliver their first new studio album since 1981′s Return Of The Giant Slits. While their 2006 EP Revenge Of The Killer Slits [review] was patchy, even over just three songs, last year’s headline gig at Ladyfest Manchester proved that the ladies still had the energy and guts to pull off a triumphant return. With original bassist Viv Albertine quitting the reformed line-up shortly after, and at a potentially wearying 14 tracks, new album Trapped Animal will be an interesting listen. As on the 2006 EP, original members Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt are joined by singer Hollie Cook, daughter of Sex Pistols’ drummer Paul Cook, Anna Schlute on drums and Adele Wilson on guitar. The first single, the knowingly titled ‘Ask Ma’, will land in August.

A new band biography, Typical Girls? The Story Of The Slits, is released on July 9th through Omnibus Press in the UK. Go here for an insightful interview with author Zoë Street Howe. Wears The Trousers recently interviewed Viv Albertine about her time in The Slits and her forthcoming solo album, so watch out for that soon.
