First Plastic Ono Band releases in 36 yearsYoko Ono will release a new iTunes-only EP next week as a taster for the forthcoming Plastic Ono Band album Between My Head & The Sky, the first to be released under the legendary bandname since 1973′s Feeling The Space. Don’t Stop Me! features four new tracks from the new lineup, which includes Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto, Keigo Oyamada (aka Cornelius), and various other avant-garde and improvisational musicians from Japan and downtown Manhattan. “Yoko unleashed a deluge of new songs, writing about 16 songs in 6 days, the most prolific day peaking out at 6 songs written and tracked in an afternoon,” says Sean of the album. “The recording session was like a tornado of inspiration. Some of the best lyrics on the record Yoko actually ‘freestyled’ as if she were a lyrical divining rod.” Fifteen songs made the final cut, released in September through Chimera Music.
It’s been a busy year for Yoko with the touring gallery retrospective of her artwork and companion book Between The Sky & My Head (see what she did there?), and this Saturday she’ll be in Venice to pick up the Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Biennale. She’ll then stop by London on June 14th for a Plastic Ono Band performance at Ornette Coleman’s Meltdown Festival with special guests including Antony Hegarty, Mark Ronson and Ornette Coleman himself. As if that wasn’t enough, she’s currently sitting at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart with the recently released remixes of ‘I’m Not Getting Enough’, originally from her 2001 album Blueprint For A Sunrise.
