Label celebrates 20th anniversary with comprehensive collection
Warp Records are celebrating their 20th year in style with a lavish boxset containing five CDs and five 10″ vinyls, collected together under the very fitting title of Warp20. While the majority of the label’s roster are men, the likes of Leila, Broadcast’s Trish Keenan, Mira Calix and Seefeel’s Sarah Peacock do their bit for womankind by chipping in some previously unheard tracks. Leila contributes a cover of Aphex Twin’s ‘Vordhosbn’ (the Cornish word for sailboat), from Richard D James’s 2001 album drukqs, while Mira Calix teams up with Oliver Coates on a cover of Boards Of Canada’s ‘In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country’ from their 2000 EP of the same name. Broadcast get a look in with exclusive track ‘Sixty Forty’, and also with ‘Tender Buttons’ (the title track of their 2006 album) on the ‘best of the label’ CD curated by Warp Records co-founder Steve Beckett. Tender Buttons album track ‘I Found The F’ also crops up as a cover by Gravenhurst.
While we await a release date for this beautifully packaged collection, Pitchfork have revealed the tracklists for all but one of the CDs (a continuous mix of tracks from the boxset mashed together by Osymyso) and two of the 10″ vinyls (both of which contain locked-groove loops lifted from Warp tracks).
