Having spent the majority of the year as a touring member of Bat For Lashes alongside New Young Pony Club drummer Sarah Jones and singer-songwriter Ben Christophers, Charlotte Hatherley has barely had time to put in more than a few solo gigs to promote her upcoming third album New Worlds (previously Cinnabar City), out October 19th on her own Little Sister Records. First single ‘White’ was released on Monday with extra tracks featuring the likes of Squarepusher and Adem, picking up some good press along the way, and features a reverse-shot video that seems to show paint dripping up a wall as Charlotte gets progressively cleaner.
Like ‘White’, preview track ‘Colours’ is a bit leaner and meaner than we’ve heard from Charlotte before. The cute indie-pop pin-up of ‘Bastardo’ and ‘I Want You To Know’ has been edged out by a more mature woman with a fiercer tone. That’s not to say she’s completely lost the lightness of touch that makes her albums so enjoyable; ‘Colours’ gets lovably petulant and doesn’t disappoint.
