Design the sleeve of Rachael Dadd’s new mini album

To celebrate their release of Rachael Dadd’s upcoming mini album, Moth In The Motor, boutique indie label Broken Sound have launched an arts project of the same name in which aspiring artists are encouraged to submit their own sleeve designs. A number of the submitted pieces will go on display at during an unplugged event headlined by Rachael and friends in February, and every artist who creates a sleeve will be granted the rather fabulous reward of a permanent profile, including a biography and links to their other works, on the Broken Sound website.

Moth In The Motor, which is being released on 10″ vinyl, will have a limited run of 300 pressings – all hand numbered – and while some of the sleeves will feature submitted work, a portion will also be tailormade by Rachael herself using lino-cut stamps. The paper material, named Lokta, was ethically sourced by the artist herself from villages in the Himalayas, giving the release a handmade quality that fits nicely with Rachael’s dedicatedly DIY, eco-friendly ethos.

Described as an “underground folk artist”, Rachael is a starry-eyed globe trotter (also known as one half of Whalebone Polly with This Is The Kit’s Kate Stables) who plays small, intimate shows from Japan to France, skipping from one fleetingly romantic show to another while finding the time between travels to keep up a steady work of handcrafted goodies. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Rachael includes banjo, clarinet, guitar and harmonium in her arsenal, though Moth In The Motor will feature her piano-prominent songs. The EP is getting a February release, giving all you potential scribblers a fine chance to get creative.
