[Mississippi/Slumberland; April 12]
Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming reissue of Swiss outfit Chin Chin’s 1985 debut LP. Long out of print and highly sought after, Sound Of The Westway is set to enjoy an exciting vinyl reincarnation via the joint efforts of Mississippi Records and Slumberland.
The all-girl trio formed in Biel, Switzerland, in 1982, musically inexperienced but making up for an intial lack of technical skills with passionate enthusiasm. New member Carol joined Esther, Karin and Marie-Anne to become the voice of their 1985 7” ‘We Don’t Wanna Be Prisoners’, released through the band’s co-owned label Farmer Records, but by the time they recorded Sound Of The Westway, Chin Chin were back to their original triune lineup.
NME published their first UK interview shortly after, and the band were soon being scouted as a support act for the likes of Scottish noise-pop group The Shop Assistants, going on to release the Stop! Your Crying EP in 1987 on legendary Scottish label, 53rd & 3rd. Their catchy, pop-inflected punk-rock buzzed perfectly alongside fellow C86 outfits of the era such as The Rosehips, The Fizzbombs and The Pastels, and though they faded out of the spotlight leaving only one full-length, it’s an absolute gem.
Gushing review of this newly remastered, vinyl-only release to follow shortly.
