Lonely Drifter Karen
Fall Of Spring

[Crammed Discs; April 19, 2010]

Pan-European trio Lonely Drifter Karen, fronted by Austrian vocalist Tanja Frinta, return next month with second album Fall Of Spring. They may bear a name that evokes a sense of dusky Americana and bourbon-soaked country laments, but this restless group aren’t so easy to pin down stylistically. Their 2008 debut Grass Is Singing travelled all over the musical map but sometimes felt more like a singer-songwriter record than the product of a tightly wound band. Fall Of Spring is different; written, played and recorded as a band, rather than off the back of Frinta’s solo musings, it sees them adopting a more rambunctious feel as they romp through the seasons. Guests include Emily Jane White, who duets on ‘Seeds’ and Akron/Family’s Dana Janssen.
