Wears The Trousers brings you an exclusive first-look at the artwork for the new Nina Nastasia album, Outlaster, coming in June. Windswept and ghostly, it could be an illustration straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe horror yarn. LOVE. IT.
Nina’s first album since 2007′s You Follow Me, a collaboration with The Dirty Three’s Jim White, Outlaster was once again recorded with Steve Albini at the helm and with Jay Bellerose reinstated at the drums. Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker chipped in too, while multi-instrumentalist and arranger Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann, Mavis Staples, Lucinda Williams) was on hand to help adapt the songs for a small orchestra. Wait! Yes! An orchestra. Outlaster takes Nina’s music as far away from her celebrated sparse, stripped-down aesthetic as she’s ever been, resulting in an album that feels purposeful and grand.
The first single will be the album’s lead track ‘Cry, Cry Baby’, released digitally and on 7″ vinyl b/w non-album track ‘Our Gang’, on May 10. Video coming soon.
