Kathryn Calder
Are You My Mother?

[File Under: Music; August 10]

Kathryn Calder is the latest member of the New Pornographers to make a bid to become an indie-rock-canny household name, breaking out from the all-star Canadian group to release her debut solo album, Are You My Mother?, on August 10 through File Under: Music (digital release July 1).

Kathryn first came to our attention as one-third of Immaculate Machine before quitting the band after eight years to take a larger role in New Pornographers alongside Neko Case, who recruited her as a backing vocalist for her own Middle Cyclone. Neko returns the favour with a contribution to Calder’s ten-track opus, which was recorded at Kathryn’s home in Victoria, British Columbia with producer Colin Stewart (Veda Hille, Black Mountain, Immaculate Machine). Fellow New Pornographers Kurt Dahle and Todd Fancey, plus members of Ladyhawk and Frog Eyes, also lent a hand.

Head over to Myspace to preview three songs from the record.
