When John Martyn passed away in January 2009 just weeks after being awarded an OBE from the Queen, fellow musicians rushed to pay their respects to a genuine folk music legend. Now that admiration is being taken one step further with work on a tribute album well underway. Among the ladies taking part are Beth Orton, Lisa Hannigan, Vashti Bunyan, The Swell Season’s Markéta Irglová and Morcheeba’s Skye Edwards, with additional contributions from Beck, Snow Patrol, Devendra Banhart, Paolo Nutini, Vetiver, The Blind Boys Of Alabama, David Gray, ex-Verve members Nick McCabe and Simon Jones (aka The Blackships) and a rare solo track from The Cure’s Robert Smith.
