[One Little Indian; September 20]
Emilíana Torrini was only signed to One Little Indian for one album – 1999′s Love In The Time Of Science – but by virtue of the album’s six singles (including a re-release of ‘To Be Free’) she managed to amass quite a stockpile of B-sides and remixes.
The optimistically titled Rarities collects a whopping twenty-eight of these, from decidedly un-rare album cuts like ‘Dead Things’, ‘Wednesday’s Child’, ‘Tuna Fish’, ‘To Be Free’, ‘Baby Blue’ and ‘Easy’ to slightly scarcer B-sides such as the quirky ‘Weird Friendless Kid’ and Emilíana’s cover of Jacques Brel’s ‘If You Go Away’. Rarities will be available on 2xCD or 4xLP. Sadly, true Emilíana rarities like the vinyl-only e:rmx 7″ project remain unavailable on CD.
Emilíana, who has since released two albums on Rough Trade Records, is taking time out to have her first baby, though she did pipe up recently about plans for album number four.

Great news that there is some old/new or new/old stuff being released, but I’m not really that interested in remixes as Emiliana gets it right first time round. But….if it has a stack load of nice artwork I’ll snap it up within a minute of the record shop opening!

For me, personally, Love In The Time Of Silence is Emilíana’s best album. It’s a bit sad that she plays just very few songs from this album live and just during the encore. It’s great that One Little Indian looked into their pockets and found so much great stuff that is worth of releasing
