Her latest album New AmErykah Part 2 (Return Of The Ankh) may have found her in mellower mood than its confrontational predecessor, but Erykah Badu just can’t help but stir up trouble.
In Coodie Rock’s Matt & Kim-inspired video for the original version of ‘Window Seat’, Badu was shown walking the downtown Dallas plaza where JFK was murdered, stripping naked as she went, before being shot by an unseen assailant. The stunt sparked the anger of city officials who originally threatened Erykah with a fine of up to $4000 and up to one year in prison for “guerilla filming” and indecent exposure. That was commuted to a $500 fine for “disorderly conduct”, which, last we heard, Badu intended to fight in court.
For this new video featuring rapper Rick Ross, Badu heads in the opposite direction, changing into less revealing outfits as the clip goes on, ultimately donning a pair of high heels, latex tights and netting over her face as she and Ross apparently hold up a convenience store. Two gunshots are heard, and then the dreaded ‘To Be Continued’ flashes up on the screen. Referencing the previous clip with a news report and Badu starting off in the same outfit, it’s an intriguing continuation of the story. Part three soon please!
