When influential electronic duo Lamb regrouped after five years apart to play a series of shows in 2009, fans were hopeful for more than just the mooted live CD/DVD as a memento of the tour. Then, when Andy Barlow announced on-stage in January that Lamb would most likely not play live together again, it seemed that there was no hope for a comeback album. Well, good news on that front: Lamb are back in the studio working on exactly that. Perhaps taking a cue from their fellow English trip-hop pioneers Portishead, Lamb are calling the album 5 (it’s their fifth), and you can hear rough mixes of two new songs – ‘Strong The Root’ and ‘She Walks’ – right here.
Says singer Lou Rhodes of the band’s return: “Earlier this year Andy and I were talking on the phone; just catching up and chewing the fat. Andy was saying how he missed so much of what Lamb had been about. I guess I was a little more reticent, busy touring my solo acoustic project, but when he said to me: ‘Lou, give me one good reason why we shouldn’t make another Lamb album’, I really couldn’t think of one.
“So after all this time we’re back in the studio and there’s something fresh and new about the music we’re writing. It hasn’t been this way since we wrote the eponymous first album when we felt utterly unconcerned with what anyone felt about what we were doing. It was about the music and the journey it took us on. We always said we wouldn’t make another Lamb album until we had something new to say. That time has definitely come.”
Lamb are determined to release 5 under their own steam, and so are asking fans to consider pre-ordering the record through their official website to raise the cash. Over to you, Lou: “In return you will get a special limited edition release of the record with exclusive artwork in a hardback book version. You will also get regular blogs and updates on how the record’s going and, upon registering, you’ll get a special preview version of one of the songs ‘She Walks’ fresh off the press. Of course, since you’ll be supporting the making of the record, you’ll also get a name credit in the artwork and if you’re amongst the first 250 you’ll get a super-limited edition, signed print we think you’ll love.”
Sounds like a good deal, right? Go here to be a part of it.
