If you were at Ladyfest Ten’s Beats Workin’ event you will have no doubt have marvelled at the major vocal feats of a certain Bellatrix. Often cited as the “UK’s leading female beatboxer”, she’s the founding member of all-girl a cappella group The Boxettes and a ferocious talent in her own right.
Concerned with the lack of peers and competitors in her very niche lane, Bellatrix has teamed up with worldwide beatbox community humanbeatbox.com to hold the UK’s first ever beatbox championship for women, with the aim of motivating girls and women to take their vocal talents out of their bedrooms and elevate themselves to the same visibility as male beatbox artists. The contest will run alongside the annual UK Beatbox Championships, with heats starting in February and the finals taking place in June. Women are also encouraged to participate in the main competition.
Anyone interested in participating should check in and sign up via ukbeatboxchampionships.com.
