STREAM | Kimya Dawson — ‘Miami Advice’

February 8, 2011 by Alan Pedder in Blog

By the time Kimya Dawson’s new album arrives in late summer / autumn, more than five years will have passed since her last proper studio album, 2006′s charming Remember That I Love You. She’s passed the time by having a baby, dealing with the success of the ‘Juno’ soundtrack, making songs for kids (2008′s hilarious Alphabutt), recording and touring with side project The Bundles, and tweeting like there’s no tomorrow.

The forthcoming Thunder Thighs has therefore been recorded in short snatches of time where Dawson’s schedule has allowed her to visit K Records’ famous Dub Narcotic Studio, and most likely isn’t finished yet. Fans got a brief snippet of new track ‘Miami Advice’ on Twitter last November; now they can soak up the whole entire thing over on the K Records Tumblr. Featuring Aesop Rock singing and providing the beats, Thao and Only Son chiming in with backing vocals, plus contributions from Clyde Petersen of Your Heart Breaks, the Olympia Free Choir and Andrew Dorsett and Ben Kapp of Desolation Wilderness.

Anyone fearing that Kimya has been spoiled by her ‘Juno’ success needn’t worry; the song still mentions farting and Twitter. They’ll never change her.
