she said, she said: amanda palmer

“Holy DISCO, @ladygaga. New single is out and it follows the general theme: inspiring message, banal packaging. Also just realized it sounds exactly like ‘Express Yourself’ (melody & chord changes) by Madonna. That’s not going to win her points.”

So, apparently Amanda Palmer isn’t a fan of the new Lady Gaga track ‘Born This Way’, which premiered online today. The outspoken singer took to Twitter (like pretty much everyone else in the world) to throw in her two cents about the megastar’s new offering.

Clearly she ruffled a few feathers in the process as she clarified her opinions minutes later in a follow-up tweet: “WHOA everyone, I’m a fan of Gaga As Idea. Brave lady, important cultural force. Which is why I keep hoping she’ll use her power for good, but this song is BLAND. Hamfisted lyrics & totally derivative everything. But I’d rather folks dance to this than to songs hailing White Power.”

A general rule of thumb is to take everything Palmer says with a pinch of salt, but this time we’re inclined to think that she’s right on the money. Maybe ‘Born This Way’ is a grower, but frankly Gaga is capable of so much better.
