INCOMING | EMA — Past Life Martyred Saints

EMA
Past Life Martyred Saints

[Souterrain Transmissions; May 9]

If you’re a keen follower of our Free Music Fridays, you’ll already know that EMA is the new solo project from Erika M Anderson, formerly of legendary folk/noise outfit Amps For Christ and genre-defying duo Gowns with Ezra Buchla. We were knocked sideways by her recent single ‘The Grey Ship’, a seven-minute long, distortion clouded ode to her Viking ancestors, and the accompanying sixteen-minute B-side cover of Robert Johnson’s ‘Kind Heart’. Needless to say we expected equally epic things from her debut, and Past Life Martyred Saints certainly delivers on atmosphere. Anderson has honed a style that melds eerie, visceral songwriting with a DIY approach to recording, and grungy reverb, haunting melodies and a thick, hissing vein of ’90s alt-noise aesthetics mark this debut as one to watch out for.

Tracklist:
01 The Grey Ship
02 California
03 Anteroom
04 Milkman
