‘Doorstep’ (live)

French music website Le HibOO has a stack of brilliant live performances dotted about in its archives, but this newly recorded clip of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner of tUnE-yArDs is really very special. Recorded last week in the same Parisian square where Victor Hugo famously once resided, the duo play an incredible, stripped down version of new album track ‘Doorstep’.

When Wears The Trousers interviewed her last week, Merrill revealed that the song was partly inspired by the police shooting of unarmed Oscar Grant in her adopted home of Oakland, California, on New Year’s Day 2009. We spoke with Merrill in-depth about the violent themes that run throughout her new album w h o k i l l – expect a full write-up in the coming weeks.
