Emmy The Great and Elizabeth Sankey of Summer Camp premiere Sweet Valley High-inspired duo

April 28, 2011 by Alan Pedder in Blog

Emmy The Great and poet Jack Underwood hosted the only full-length performance of their music and multimedia show ‘The Goodbye Library’ last night at The Nave as part of the 2011 London Word Festival.

Taking inspiration from ten Dewey decimal classification categories found in Britain’s under-threat libraries, including True-life Tragedy and Teen Fiction, the show featured four solo songs from Emmy, reading and musings from Underwood, comedian/visual artist Miriam Elia, author Nikesh Shukla and author/poet Joe Dunthorne, and a bookswap in which one lucky observer managed to get a signed copy of Francine Pascal’s recently published revival of the Sweet Valley High franchise, Sweet Valley Confidential – Ten Years On.

The highlight for us, though, was found in the Teen Fiction section, where Emmy and Elizabeth Sankey of Summer Camp teamed up as the Sweet Valley High-inspired ‘supergroup’ Elizabeth & Jessica Wakefield. Photographer Martyn Leung was on hand to snap the action, and some kind soul uploaded a video of one song, ‘I’ve Never Had Sex’, to YouTube (below).
