Emmy The Great has been playing out a bunch of new songs lately – her Christmas show at London’s St Pancras Old Church provided many with their first public airing, and some were reprised at her show as part of last month’s WOW–Women Of The World festival – so news of a follow-up to her 2009 debut First Love has been due for a while now.
Released on June 13 and produced by Gareth Jones (Grizzly Bear, These New Puritans), Virtue explores Emmy’s ill-fated past relationship with a boyfriend who left her to join the clergy. Previously announced song titles include: ‘God Of Loneliness’, ‘Cassandra’, ‘Exit Night’, ‘Paper Forest’ and, er, ‘Dinosaur Sex’. Emmy previously told NME that “The first half of the album is about impending doom and the second half is about dealing with the aftermath.”
Emmy returns to St Pancras Old Church for three shows in the week leading up to the album release. The June 8 and 9 dates have already sold out. Get tickets for June 10 here.
