Amanda Palmer’s 8in8 project/band didn’t quite achieve its/their ambitious objective of writing and recording eight new songs in eight hours, managing six songs in roughly twelve hours, but we think they deserve a round of applause for even attempting such a harebrained scheme.
Together with Ben Folds, Damian Kulash, and husband Neil Gaiman, Amanda went into Mad Oak Studio in Allston, Massachusetts, at 4pm and came out at 4am with a brand new EP, which they’re calling Nighty Night. Sean Slade produced, Benny Grotto recorded and mixed, and J Saliba and Adam Hand assisted, and you can listen to and buy the finished product now via Bandcamp for a minimum donation of $1. For the first two weeks, all donations will go to Berklee City Music Boston, “one of a few like-minded music programs in cities all over the U.S. who are providing kids with every opportunity to see their musical potential.”
Of the six songs, Amanda handles the lead vocals on ‘Nikola Tesla’ and ‘I’ll Be My Mirror’, and duets with Ben Folds on ‘Because The Origami’. Read more about the songs and how they crowdsourced lyric ideas via Twitter over on Amanda’s blog.
