After wowing us with the melancholy, Mazzy Star-like preview track ‘Coming Down’, Dum Dum Girls have now announced ‘Bedroom Eyes’ as the first proper single from their second album Only In Dreams, out September 26 via Sub Pop. Details of the single are a bit thin on the ground currently, but we do know that it will be released as a 7″ vinyl backed with a “dreamy B-side cover” and that a video has been shot by Sam Macon (who has previously worked with Dee Dee’s husband’s band Crocodiles). Oh, and that the song is pretty damn great. Download it for free below.
In a mailing list message circulated yesterday, Dee Dee revealed that ‘Bedroom Eyes’ was “the last song I wrote [for the album] before we holed up in our LA practice space for two weeks before recording.” In writing the song she says she took inspiration from pre-Raphaelite poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s classic ‘Insomnia’, speculating that the track may be about “love within the context of insomnia and separation.”
