Katy Perry set to equal Michael Jackson US chart record

August 3, 2011 by Alan Pedder in Blog

When Billboard announce their Hot 100 singles later this week, it could turn out to be a another landmark date for Katy Perry. If her latest single ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ matches its position in the dedicated pop chart – that is, by reaching #1 – the Californian will become the first artist to score five chart-topping singles from the same album in over thirty years. The last (and only other) person to achieve such a feat was Michael Jackson with the string of singles from his 1987 album Bad: ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’, ‘Bad’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’, ‘Man In The Mirror’ and ‘Dirty Diana’.

Michael went on to release another four singles from the album (with ‘Smooth Criminal’ charting best at #7), so don’t bet on ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ being the last we’ve heard from Perry’s Teenage Dream phase.
