The wondrous Annie Clark becomes the first musician ever to perform on the rooftop of New York’s famous Metropolitan Museum of Art when she takes to the stage tonight in celebration of the new exhibition ‘Anthony Caro On The Roof’. We European types will have to wait until November to see her in action, when she’ll be touring her brilliant third album Strange Mercy, out September 12, with a new backing band formed of Toko Yauda (Enon, ex-Blonde Redhead) on mini Moog, Daniel Mintseris (Marianne Faithful) on keys and Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright) on drums. The full list of UK and Ireland shows is below, and tickets are on sale now.

12.11.11 The Deaf Institute, Manchester

Today also marks the premiere of the first video from the album, for ‘Cruel’. The clip was directed by Terri Timely, who previously worked with Clark to produce the fantastic videos for ‘Actor Out Of Work’ and ‘Marrow’, and features poor Annie being literally and figuratively buried alive. Read her own take on the making of the video over at Huffington Post.
