Anaïs Mitchell sets release date for new album

November 18, 2011 by Alan Pedder in Blog

Anaïs Mitchell follows up her endlessly impressive 2010 folk-opera Hadestown with a new album, Young Man In America, out February 28 through her own Wilderland Records. Produced once again by Todd Sickafoose, the album features guest appearances from the likes of fellow singer-songwriters Rachel Ries and Jefferson Hamer, violinist Jenny Scheinman and Chris Thile of Punch Brothers on mandolin, as well as longtime collaborator Michael Chorney on guitar.

The new album’s title track will most likely be familiar to anyone who has caught an Anaïs Mitchell solo show over the past year or so, spinning a tale of “a restless character on a feverish hunt for pleasure and success. Alcohol, fame, money, sex – nothing satisfies him. He’s desirous and very sad.”

Check out a live version taped in May this year below.
