We suspected that Mutya Buena was bluffing when she pooh-poohed the rumours that the original Sugababes lineup had reunited and were working on new material. And now Emeli Sandé has confirmed it for us, admitting to MTV.co.uk that she has been busy in the studio working on a song with Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy.
“I’ve written for the original lineup of the Sugababes, which I’m very happy about because I just loved them when they first came out,” she told them, adding “I loved their sound, it was so cool. It was very different, so I’m happy to kind of be involved in what started the whole Sugababes journey. It sounds amazing.”
Rumours about the reunion started as long ago as 2009, following the departure of last-remaning original member Buchanan, but have gained a lot more momentum in recent weeks. It is thought that songwriting and production team Xenomania and producer Cameron McVey (who worked on the first Sugababes album in 2000, and later on Donaghy’s solo debut Revolution In Me) are also involved.
Wonder how much trouble Emeli’s in now…
