Fast-talking rapper Azealia Banks is sitting in the centre of a maelstrom of buzz right now on the strength of a handful of songs, and it seems like we’ll have to wait a few more months to see whether it’s justified. Speaking with Nylon magazine, Banks confirmed that her debut album will drop in September, and goes by the name of Broke With Expensive Taste. ”I’m not trying to withdraw, but I am trying to find that personal space again because I have an album to finish,” the rapper explained. “All the praise from the fashion world is great but now everybody wants a piece and everybody wants an interview, but I need to step away and get my music done.”
Banks is working with Adele/Florence + The Machine producer Paul Epworth on the album, but if that pairing doesn’t intrigue you (personally we enjoy the Odd Couple vibe of it), this one might: according to Twitter, she’s collaborating with M.I.A. on an as yet unspecified something. Exciting!
Banks releases the 212 EP through Polydor on March 25, featuring a bunch of remixes of the awesome title track and ‘Liquorice’. She’ll tour the UK in September/October, calling at the following venues:
