Emilíana Torrini finding new album “a big challenge”

April 23, 2012 by Alan Pedder in Blog

Answering questions in an exclusive interview with frequenters of her fansite, Emilíana Torrini has explained why she’s still not ready to bring a new record into the world. “I keep writing songs and then not liking them,” she says. “It is confusing me. I am finding this one a big challenge…and then I remember that that is how it is with every record I make. I keep being sidetracked.”

That’s not surprising given that she became a first-time mum just over a year ago. “Morphing into a mum has been most incredibly life changing, and also a very overwhelming time. I haven’t processed it all yet. I do feel that leaving it out of the record would be wrong. I have a feeling I need to just step away from it for a little bit and just go and have some fun.”

She later adds, “Fans have been amazingly patient with me and my slow recording habits and extremely bad or nonexistent internet habits. This musical freedom would never ever be possible without that kind of strong support. It is humbling.”

Head over to emilianafans.com to read the full interview, which covers topics like Emilíana’s adopted hometown of Brighton, revisiting her previous albums, and the true identity of Elísabet, who is the central character of her new song of the same name. Sadly there don’t seem to be any YouTube captures of the song being played live, but Emilíana fans will get another chance to flash their cameras when she visits Slovakia and Belgium in July to play the Bazant Pohoda Festival (July 5) and Cactus Festival (July 6), respectively.
