Sufjan Stevens and Man Man’s Chris Powell lend a hand

As you may recall from previous encounters featuring Twin Sister and Sharon Van Etten, Shaking Through is a project run by Weathervane Music Organisation in which they ask artists to write and record an entire song in just two days. The most recent installment features the wonderful Cat Martino (facebook / twitter), with a little help from Sufjan Stevens on drum machine, keyboards, and backing vocals and Man Man’s Chris Powell on drums and drum machine.

It’s Martino, though, who is firmly front and centre for the lovely ‘I Promise’. The track is darker than Martino’s previous work, and more plaintively, strikingly beautiful. Gentle electronica pulsates slowly, giving Cat’s gorgeously measured vocals full room to breathe. To download the track, get thee to Weathervane’s Bandcamp page where it’s yours for the price of your email address.
