[Damnably; June 6]
Those Shonen Knife ladies don’t know how to sit still it seems. Having celebrated their thirtieth year as a band in 2011 with numerous releases and plenty of touring, the Osaka trio return in June with their eighteenth (!) studio album, Pop Tune, featuring ten new and original songs. Unusually, on two of those songs founding member Naoko Yamano has relinquished lead vocals to her bandmates: bassist Ritsuko Taneda fronts ‘Sunshine’ while drummer Emi Morimoto leads on ‘Psychedelic Life’. We’re also told that ‘Osaka Rock City’ has been picked up as the theme song for filmmaker Hiroshi Nishio’s upcoming film ‘Soul Train Flower’, penned by Robin Shio.
As ever, the European release features different artwork to the Japanese version, released the same day; both are by illustrator Mami Saitou. Peep it below, along with the tracklist.
