Anaïs Mitchell is by no means alone in lamenting the death this week of The Band’s Levon Helm after a long battle with cancer, but we haven’t heard a more beautiful musical tribute to the man yet than this a cappella performance of ‘Golden Bird’ from Helm’s final solo studio album, 2009′s Electric Dirt. Filmed live in Evanston, Illinois, Anaïs is joined by long-time pal Rachel Ries (currently touring as part of her Young Man Band) and by Kristin Slipp of US tourmates Cuddle Magic in a rendition that Mountain Man lovers will swoon for.
