VIDEO | THEESatisfaction — ‘queenS’

April 21, 2012 by Charlotte Richardson Andrews in Blog

THEESatisfaction
‘QueenS’

The lead single from Seattle’s lo-fi hip hop duo THEESatisfaction’s just-out debut Sub Pop full-length awE naturalE finally gets a video treatment, and under the expert hand of acclaimed journalist dream hampton, no less. Sisterhood is an obvious central theme, and though the gaggle of beautiful women of colour dancing around the small apartment speak of collective unity, there’s an emphasis on intimacy and tactile sensation, from the hands brushing pale eyeshadow on her friend and the coil of hair loosened from its pin to the bright necklaces that vocalist Cat places around emcee partner Stas’s neck before the two embrace at the beginning of the video.

The duo are currently on tour around the UK; tonight they play The Arches in Glasgow before hitting Brighton (The Hope, April 23) and London (Madame JoJo’s, April 24) in the week.
